How to Be a Peacemaker at Work

Every week, I choose a different topic from the chat wall on the Project Inspired private Facebook group, where you can read, comment and/or ask questions or make prayer requests. Join our Facebook Girl Talk Group here.

This week, a PI Girl wrote about a situation at work that was bothering her, and was asking how to handle mean girls at work or people who are difficult.

This is a great question and is something that we can face in our daily lives. One thing we want to do is to make sure we are peacemakers as Christians. We want to be a light and lead people to the Lord by our love and actions.

You may be in a situation where people make fun of you for being a believer, or maybe you feel like they’re not kind or are hard on you. All you need to know is that how we work for man is working unto God. We must serve one another in love. We must speak kindly and respectfully to those around us and above us in authority. Although we may not agree, we can still show the love of God.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. (Colossians 3:23)

Next, if you’re in a situation where people are gossiping or aren’t very kind, then it’s important to be the one who doesn’t chime in. We must set a standard for ourselves to not look like the world or to be the people who retaliate or who give an eye for an eye.

For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. (Psalm 75:6-7)

You may face a situation where you work hard at the internship or do the work for the promotion and someone else gets it. Trust that God has you and that your time will come, and don’t be jealous or upset; even if people cheat you at work, you will be rewarded. Make sure to keep your cool and to walk in the spirit, and not bow down to a lower level of being fearful or mean-spirited. We don’t have to compete in the Kingdom of God. The Lord promises to bless us and to promote us in due season. The key to all of this is to stay humble.

Do you have anyone around you who is difficult? How do you handle it? I encourage you to pray, seek God, and pray for your enemies or those who persecute you.

Seek God first…and everything shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

PI Girls, comment below for questions or if you have any prayer requests! We love you!
